UN Mission Ends in Western Sahara as Global Powers Clash, While Tragedy Strikes in Florida
An impasse at the UN halted a 35‑year peacekeeping effort in Western Sahara, and a Learjet crash in Palm Beach County claimed nine lives, leaving Joe Mixon devastated.
For many voters the UN’s abrupt halt of its 35‑year peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara after an impasse between the US and Russia highlights how distant bureaucrats can dictate the fate of a region that Morocco claims as its own.
The tragedy in Palm Beach County, where a Learjet 60 crashed and nine people died, underscores the everyday cost of lax safety oversight.
Joe Mixon said he was ‘Absolutely devastated’, noting he had flown on the same Learjet with the same two pilots one month before the crash.
